Big Bob Burlon
Office Manager
The man who has been with us from the beginning. Bob Burlon, whom we lovingly call Big-Bob, was homeless for many years. After having served 14 years in prison. Big-Bob found himself out in the street, out of society, with little or no hope. What do you do if you do not want to return to crime? As Bob said “I turned to Jesus”.
It was very hard for me in the streets. Until God sent Fr. Russ to me, I was never sure if I would make it; I was convicted under the sex-offender act. The mark of Cain never leaves. A difference in a year or a few months can make you marked for life as a sex-offender and every one thinks you are a pedophile. They do not know there are differences in the crimes. Not that it matters, what matters is change. Facing your wrongs and then doing something about it. My crime put me out of society; but gave me Jesus to rely on and serve.
On meeting Fr. Russ I learn daily that anyone can change; it does not matter how any one views you, but Jesus. I learn daily how to be a disciple of Christ and how to serve my fellow man; whether that man likes me or not.
Q.Fr. Russ What is your outlook on about Bob?
A. “Bob has been one of my greatest assets as I follow the direction of the Holy Spirit here in New London. Our ministry is to serve Jesus, as he would want. Just as if he is here in the flesh.”
“I will not and I cannot judge anyone’s past crimes. All folks are welcome who want to change and better their lives. It is not easy and as the head of this ministry, I demand a lot, in discipline and commitment of the core members. We all suffer as outcast, we all made mistakes, we all serve and support one another in change guided by our commitment to following Jesus’ Way.”
Bob has been with us five-years. He is physically disabled; however, he serves 40 to 60 hours a week in community service. He goes to continues counseling, does the utmost to learn and educate himself in the ways of a Christian Disciple.
